My name is Ninotchka De Jesus. Maybe I was born on a family trip or on my mom's route to the mall because I cannot understand how Maria A. Rosa Vega gave birth to me at the Hermanos Brenes Hospital in Bayamon, Puerto Rico while living in Rio grande. I was raised by a single mom and brother named Raymond Rodriguez Rosa. I lived most of my childhood in Carolina and I studied at a private school called Saint Francis School until I reached the fourth grade. Then I studied in the Academia Presbiteriana de Carolina until I reached the seventh grade. I showed some skills for poem writing and I won several writing competitions since I was nine years old. I tried every sport and I was not good in any , so I preferred to stay as a basketball fan.
Then I moved to Luquillo and started my eight grade at the Sonifel private school in Fajardo. On tenth grade I started my high school years at the Isidro A. Sanchez public school in Luquillo. I kept on with my writing passion even though the school did not offer any curriculum to help me develop more as a writer. At twelve grade I went on a fieldtrip with my advance Spanish teacher to EL NUEVO DIA and that day I got my first job. It was a none salary job which consisted in writing articles for a teenage magazine called LOGON. I did several interviews , I interviewed the singer Calle 13 , the Mc Joe and Mc William twins which are professional boxers and I also wrote a lot of different articles. After I graduated from twelve grade I spent the two most thoughtful months of my life, they were the turning point of a life changing decision.
During these two months I was trying to figure out where and what to study. My confusion started when I started my voluntary job at EL NUEVO DIA newspaper, because I had always wanted to be a teacher since I was a little girl. My wooded bedroom door was my chalkboard and my dolls were my students. The confusion started during this job because I was captivated with the dynamic and fun writings I got used to creating for the magazine. Before I made my decision I went to the magazine directors office to ask her for help, she explained me the rewards and hazards of her profession and she also said how much she could help me if I decided to study journalism. Then I sat down with my twelve grade English teacher Ivette Figueroa and she also told me the rewards and hazards of her profession. She talked so lovely about her profession, she was passionate at the time of telling me the wonderful experiences with her students and how much she was blessed to be a teacher. Her words will always live inside of me and will always remind me why I chose this profession. This decision made me begin my university years at the University of Puerto Rico at Humacao. During this journey I conceived my first child named Joakim Reinosa De Jesus, the love of my life and the reason I am more encouraged than ever to follow my dream of becoming a teacher.
